Maintenance
Ultraviolet radiation, dust and dirt will cause exposed wood to gradually wear away, and the growth of mildew and fungi will give wood a dark gray blotchy look. If left unprotected, some wood can show considerable weathering within a single season. Damaged stain should be removed and a quality stain re-applied properly, along with a clear UV protection to protect the finish. In areas where there is high exposure to sun and wind, touch-ups may be necessary. On average, you can expect your log home to need an additional coat of stain every 3 to 5 years.
Regular cleaning and maintenance is less costly and time consuming than the restoration process which may be necessary if logs are left unprotected. Damage to unprotected logs can begin in 5 to 10 years depending upon the type of log, exposure, weather conditions and type of finish originally applied. We repair all areas damaged by fungal decay, insects or extreme weathering and will apply a wood preservative to prevent further deterioration. We believe in prevention and maintenance, and we offer annual inspections at no cost to our customers. |
